Holyhead Trojans V Conwy Rage 11&U
&
Holyhead Trojans V Weston Rhyn Wolves 18&U
3 July 2005
At Holyhead Leisure Centre

11 & Under Team Game v Conwy Rage

Conwy had beaten Holyhead last time round so the home side were hoping to make amends. Rage however, had other ideas and by then end of the 1st period had opened up a 2-0 lead.
The 2nd period saw James Clay-Evan's blocked shot seized on by Ryan Twiss, who somehow poked it in past the keeper. The visitors stretched their lead again before Dale Stalman levelled the 2nd period 3-3 with two goals which displayed great determination and work of which the first one saw him fighting for possession to break out of defence to score and the second one saw him poach a goal in front of the net.
The final period saw Conwy get their fourth which was where the score ended with a narrow 4-3 win for Rage.

Scorers were: Dale Stalman (2) & Ryan Twiss

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Dale Stalman - showed determination and high work-rate throughout.

14 & Under Team Game v Conwy Rage

Conwy Rage conceded this game because they weren't able to raise a team. This now guarantees that the 14&U team have finished 2nd in their Western league and go to the North Wales 14&U Champions Play-Offs at the Deeside Arena on the 17 July 2005.

18 & Under Team Game v Weston Rhy Wolves

This game was very important in deciding who would become the league winners for the combined East/West 18&U North Wales League. The Trojans had found themselves 5-3 down at Weston Rhyn, before recovering to a narrow 6-5 win. The home side were therefore expecting another tough game.
It was a surprise therefore, that Aron Owen and Bradley Knight hit the visitors with a "goal fest" that saw them take a 9-0 lead at the end of the first period. Aron's first came from a shot that just squeezed in between the keeper & post and one of Bradleys came after a neat pass from Haydon Owen, saw him ram the puck into the back of the net.
The Wolves looked a bit shell-shocked as the 2nd period saw Holyhead keep up the pressure with a five goal haul, before the visitors got a consolation after a mix-up in the home side's defence. Aron added another 4 goals and Steven Lukehurst got his first after he speculatively chipped a puck towards goal that a Wolves player was winding up to hit down the hall.
The final period saw the best two goals of the match with the first coming from a passing move that involved all four players with Jamie Lewis passing across defence to Steven, who slotted the puck up the side of the hall to find Haydon who quickly passed to his brother Aron who duly obliged by scoring his 10th goal and, the second coming after some tight and intricate passing between Aron and Bradley which was rounded off by Bradley poking the puck under the keeper.
The final score was 22-1 in favour of the Holyhead Trojans.
There were also good displays from both netminders Laura Evans & Huw Ellis-Jones.

This now means that the 18&U have won the combined east/west 18&U league and go through to the North Wales 18&U Champions Play-Offs at the Deeside Arena on the 17 July 2005 as North Wales League Winners.

Scorers were Aron Owen (11), Bradley Knight (8) Steven Lukehurst (2) & Haydon Owen

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Jamie Lewis - was solid in defence and the visitors never got the better of him.

Holyhead Trojans V St Asaph Shadows
12 June 2005
At Holyhead Leisure Centre

11 & Under Team Game

This was the third and last game between the Trojans & Shadows this season, and the home side were looking for an improved score-line with the visitors having got the better of Holyhead twice this season.
The first period was tight with St Asaph just shading it with a 1 goal lead.
The 2nd period saw the visitors then stamp their authority by stretching their lead to 6-0.
James Clay-Evans got Trojan's only consolation goal as the Shadows ended with a 11-1 win.
The final score was 7-1 in favour of St Asaph Shadows

Scorers were: James Evans - 2

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Ryan Nolan-Jones - worked hard throughout.

14 & Under Team Game

This match, assuming Trojans beat Conwy Rage, was in affect the decider to see who gets the 2nd play-off position, behind Porthmadog, for the East/West playoffs at Deeside on the 17 July and both teams knew what was at stake.
The Trojans had beaten the Shadows at St Asaph, and then the Shadows had beaten the Trojans at Holyhead, in their two earlier matches.
To add to the pressure, Holyhead's regular keep Jessica Roberts had broken her arm and so Prestatyn's keeper, Karl Leathwood was standing in. This borrowing of another teams netminder, is only permitted once in a season.
Holyhead struck within 30 seconds of the 1st period as Jake Roberts blocked shot was seized upon by Mark Parry who blasted in his first goal. Robert Owen soon followed suit as he also seized on a blocked shot from Jake to score and then gave the Trojans a 3-0 lead by getting a 2nd shot from a rebounded shot.
The 2nd period saw Daniel Owen clear out of defence and his shot from the ½ way line found the back of the net, while Mark's pass was poked under the keepers legs by a fully stretched Simon Lukehurst as the home side went into the final period with a 6-0 lead.
The visitors then got their first goal before the Trojans added another 4 goals and the Shadows got a 2nd.
The final score was 10-2 in favour of Holyhead and should see the Trojans 14&U in the Deeside PlayOff on 17 July, assuming they beat Conwy Rage, who they've beaten comfortably twice this season.

Scorers were Mark Parry (4), Robert Owen (2), Daniel Owen (2) & Simon Lukehurst (2)

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Karl Leathwood - After being kind enough to come all of the way from Prestatyn he then made a number of wonderful saves

18 & Under Team Game - Friendy

This game was a friendly with the Trojans and Shadows having already played their league games this season with a win apiece and both will be in the Deeside playoffs on the 27 July.
The Shadows struck first before the Trojans hit back with three of their own through Lewis Darroch and Aron Owen, one of these was after a high pass from Haydon Owen, his brother Aron blindly back-sticked in past the netminder. St Asaph struck back with three more of their own as the home side added another two to end the first period with a 5-4 lead. The fourth of these was after a three pass movement between Andrew Birch, Steven Lukehurst and Haydon finally diverting the puck into the net.
Aron got all three of the home side's goals in the second period, the second of which had him diving forward to stretch out and just manage to poke the puck in past the keeper for a lead of 8-5 going into the final period.
The Shadows were unable to score again in the final period as the Trojans increased their lead by three goals through Aron, Lewis & Steven.
The final score was 11-5 to Holyhead.
There were also good performances from Jamie Lewis and netminder Laura Evans.

Scorers were Aron Owen (7), Lewis Darroch (2), Haydon Owen & Steven Lukehurst

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Aron Owen - got seven goals and worked phenomenally hard throughout.

Glaslyn Pirates V Holyhead Trojans
8 May 2005
At Porthmadog Sports Centre

11 & Under Team Game

The Porthmadog team had beaten the Tojans convincingly earlier in season and quickly carried on the same form by taking an early 3-0 lead by the end of the 1st period.
The home side stretched this lead to 8-0 for the start of the final and 3rd session, although it wasn't as one sided as the score suggested. The visitors did get a number of chances, but couldn't turn them into goals.
The Pirates then stretched their lead by three more, before Holyhead hit back with two late consolation goals; one from Ian Owen after receiving a pass from Dale Stalman and the other from James Clay-Evans, making the final score 12-2 to Glaslyn Pirates.

Scorers were Ian Owen & James Clay-Evans.

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Dale Stalman - worked hard throughout the game.

14 & Under Team Game

The first period saw a competitive opening period with some good hockey from both sides.
Glaslyn took a 2-1 lead, as Jake Roberts responded with a good wrist shot which found the back of the net.
The Pirates then stretched their lead to 5-2, with Mark Parry guiding a shot from Dan Owen into the back of the net.
Mark Parry got two more goals in the final period with assists from Robert Owen & Scott Craven, as the home side answered with three of their own to make the final score 8-4.

Scorers were Mark Parry (3) & Jake Roberts

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Jake Roberts - Gave a rock solid performance in defence and gave no quarter to the opposition.

Beez Skates Inline Hockey Western League
Prestatyn Piranhas V Holyhead Trojans
7 May 2005
At Prestatyn Sports Centre

18 & Under Team Game
The Trojans U18's have now qualified for the play-offs in Desside on the 17 July 2005, but want to finish league winners as well. Prestatyn had to get a draw or a win to get the league fourth spot to also make it to the play-offs. The Trojans were also without one of their key forwards Bradley Knight.
It was therefore no surprise that the home side made a brisker start and opened up an early 2-0 lead before Aron Owen dispossessed a defender and brought puck from behind the goal and slotted past keeper. The Piranhas then got a third before Aron fired a powerful slap shot from the half way line passed the keeper to end the first period 3-2 behind.
Through Aron's perseverance, he again won possession and passed to Steven Lukehurst who levelled for the Trojans. Aron then skipped past three players and the keeper to give the visitors a brief lead before the home side levelled 4-4 for the end of the 2nd period.
The final period was a desperate affair with the lead changing three times with two more goals from Aron and a Piranhas own goal after which the score ended 7-7.

Scorers were Aron Owen (6) & Steven Lukehurst

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Aron Owen - Worked tirelessly and fought for possession throughout and got six of the Trojan's seven goals.

Weston Rhyn Wolves V Holyhead Trojans
12 March 2005
At Rhyn Park School Sports Hall

18 & Under Team Game

Holyhead had to travel all the way to Weston Rhyn near Oswestry for this fixture, where they'd played only once before.
The Wolves opened their account first and took an early lead, before Steven Lukehurst lobbed a speculative shot that looped so high, it had ice on it by the time it came down, and which somehow found the back of the home sides net.
The second period again saw the Weston Rhyn take a 1 goal lead before a determined Neil Craven won possession from a defender and turned & shot in one movement to level for the visitors. The Wolves then scored twice more in the 2nd period before Bradley Knight got one back after his first attempt was blocked he scored off of his own re-bound, to make the score going into the final period 4 - 3 in favour of the Weston Rhyn.
The Wolves were proving to be a very good team and played to their home advantage of having only a small playing hall which the Trojans found difficult to operate in by not having much time on the puck.
The start of the third period again saw the home side stretch their lead to 5 - 3 before the Trojans made their comeback. Bradley then collected the puck from a tackle and turned neatly to slot his 2nd underneath an unprepared keeper. Bradley then found himself in front of goal with the puck and shot past a narrow gap between keeper & post to claim his hatrick to level at 5 - 5. The home side then had their keeper sent off for dissent and one of their field players stepped into goal keeping duties. Holyhead duly took advantage after Bradley neatly passed to an unmarked Aron Owen who scored the winning goal for a narrow 6 - 5 victory.

Scorers were Bradley Knight (3), Steven Lukehurst, Neil Craven & Aron Owen

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Robyn Parry - Solid defensive performance and made a number of good passes.

Conwy Rage V Holyhead Trojans
6 March 2005
At Eirias Park Sports Centre

11 & Under Team Game

This match fixture had been a draw earlier in season, where Holyhead 11&U's picked up their only point of the season.
James Evans got the Trojans first goal after his shot bounced off the keeper into the net, before Rage got two back to end the first period 2 - 1 in front.
Conwy only got one more goal in the second period.
The home side then stretched their lead further in the final period, before a good pass out of defence found it's way into Ian Owen's path who was able to slot home another consolation goal. There the score ended 8 - 2 in favour of Conwy Rage. Dewi Williams made a number of good saves to keep the score respectable.

Scorers were James Evans & Ian Owen

MVP - Most Valuable Player: James Evans - worked hard throughout the game, often giving the opposition defence a hard time.

14 & Under Team Game

The Trojans had beaten Rage 16 - 4 at Holyhead earlier in season, and were hoping for a similar result to help their goal difference if it's tight for the top two play-off positions in the league.
They soon opened their account after Simon Lukehurst went round the goal and passed to an unmarked Mark Parry in front of goal who slotted home his first. Daniel Owen's pass was hit first time by Robert Owen who added the Trojans 2nd goal. The visitors then added two more as the home team also got 2 goals to end the first period 4 - 2 in favour of the visitors.
Mark Parry then added the only Holyhead goal in the second period as Rage staged a comeback to level the scores 5 - 5 going into the final period.
Simon Lewis, coach, then reminded them in the interval that they'd beaten Rage 16-4 earlier in season. It seemed to do the trick as the Trojans then hit back with four goals before Conwy got one more before the match end 9 - 6 in favour of Holyhead. Credit to Rage for showing a big improvement since earlier in season.

Scorers were Mark Parry (4), Daniel Owen (3) & Robert Owen (2)

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Daniel Owen - Another strong performance in defence and also helped himself to 3 goals.

18 & Under Team Game

Rage got the first goal before the Trojans hit back with two goals, one from Lewis Darroch who went around a desperate lunge from the keeper to score and the other from a powerful slap-shot from Andrew Birch.
The second period saw Bradley Knight get a hatrick, two of which were assists from Aron Owen and the other was Bradley following a shot from Aron and scoring off the rebound. The score was 5 - 2 going into the 3rd and last period.
After mopping up in defence, Aron's pin-point pass was perfectly judged to end up in Bradley's path for him to score past the desperate netminder, and Bradley soon returned the favour with another well timed pass to Aron who then got his one and only goal of the match. Conwy got one more goal to end the match 7 - 3 in favour of Holyhead.
Considering The Trojans had beaten Rage 21 - 4 at Holyhead, the 18&U Rage team had also shown a big improvement from earlier in season.
There were strong performances from both Andrew Birch & Steven Lukehurst and some good saves from netminders Huw Ellis-Jones & Laura Evans

Scorers were Bradley Knight (4), Lewis Darroch, Andrew Birch & Aron Owen

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Bradley Knight - got four goals and again showed great tactical awareness when Holyhead were down to three men after sin-bins.

Holyhead Trojans V Llandudno Vikings
20 February 2005
At Holyhead Leisure Centre

11 & Under Team Game

The Vikings had beaten the Trojans 15 - 3 earlier in season at Llandudno, so the home side were looking for an improvement.
Again the visitors were proving to be too strong for Holyhead as they opened up a 8 - 1 first period lead with James Evans getting Trojan's only goal.
Llandudno then stretched their lead further by getting another 5 goals in the middle period.
James Evans got his 2nd goal in the final period as the Vikings won comfortably 18 - 2.

Scorers were: James Evans - 2

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Byron Thorne - High work rate and never stopped chasing.

14 & Under Team Game

The Trojans had beaten Llandudno 5-1 away from home earlier in season and needed a convincing win to improve their goal difference in a tight league table with them vying with St Asaph for the 2nd spot, behind Glaslyn Pirates, to make the end of season North-Wales Play-Offs. The top two go through to the Play-Offs.
Daniel Owen weaved past two defenders to score an easy goal and helped himself to a second after seizing onto a rebounded shot. Mark Parry then gained possession from a face-off in his own half and skated all the way up to score past a defenceless netminder. Mark, Darren Butler and Jake Roberts also added goals in the first period to lead 7 - 0.
The home side then got two more goals in the 2nd period, one coming from Simon Lukehurst after a good pass from mark and another from Matthew Birch, before the Vikings answered with three of their own.
The opening score in the final period was 9 - 3 in favour of Holyhead, but it ended 9 - 4 with only Llandudno being able to score again.

Scorers were Daniel Owen (2), Mark Parry (2), Darren Butler (2), Jake Roberts, Simon Lukehurst & Matthew Birch.

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Jessica Roberts - made many fine saves and kept the score respectable.

18 & Under Team Game

Holyhead have been on form in recent weeks, having beaten current North Wales Champions St Asaph Shadows and keen North-West Wales rivals Porthmadog's Glaslyn Pirates, and so were keen to make amends for Llandudno Viking's defeat of the Trojan's earlier in season.
The Vikings quickly displayed their quality though by opening a 1 - 0 lead in the 1st period before Steven Lukehurst levelled the period with a powerful slap-shot from inside his own half which got past the Llandudno netminder.
The second period then saw Holyhead open a 3 - 1 lead after Bradley Knight's pass found Aron Owen unmarked in front of goal for him score and Aron returned the favour by chasing down the defender and dis-possessing him of the puck and passing to Bradley who slotted home his first.
The Vikings started the final period by getting a goal back. The Trojans then answered after Aron mopping up in defence and going past two Vikings, passed to an unmarked Bradley who scored his second goal. The Vikings again hit back, but there the match ended with the Holyhead Trojans winning 4 - 3.
Again there were superb performances from both Trojans' netminders Huw Ellis-Jones & Laura Evans.

Scorers were Bradley Knight (2), Steven Lukehurst & Aron Owen

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Bradley Knight - Player superbly in attack and in defence when marshalling and steadying the team when down to three men after three successive sin-bins for the Trojans. The visitors never scored during any of their three power plays, thanks to the discipline and resolve of the team under Bradley's guidance.

Beez Skates Inline Hockey Western League
Glaslyn Pirates V Holyhead Trojans
30 January 2005
At Glaslyn Leisure Centre, Porthmadog

11&Under Team Game

The Porthmadog team came out fighting and took an early 3-0 lead by the end of the 1st period.
Holyhead had a number chances, but it appeared this was going to be one of those games where they didn't get the run of the puck, although in the 2nd session, Byron Thorne seized on a poor Pirates clearance, and his back-handed shot found the back of the net.
The home side then continued to pile on the pressure and took their final goal tally to 7.
The score ended 7-1 in favour of Glaslyn Pirates.

Scorers were: Byron Thorne

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Ryan Nolan-Jones, fought throughout the game for possession and never stopped running & trying.

14&Under Team Game

The Trojans had won here for the last two seasons, but had lost at least six players moving up to the 18&U, and so were expecting a tougher time than in the past.
Indeed the Pirates soon got their first, before Holyhead then answered with two of their own, the pick of these being when Simon Lukehurst went passed two defenders, he passed to an unmarked Mark Parry in front of goal, who then lifted the puck over the netminder to score. The home side then got another to end the first period 2-2.
Glaslyn then began to make the pressure tell and ended the 2nd period with a 5-2 lead.
The Trojans then started a fightback in the final session and took their score up to six with Daniel Owen getting a hatrick, whilst Porthmadog made their strength tell by also increasing their goal tally to win 10-6.

Scorers were Mark Parry (3) & Daniel Owen (3)

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Daniel Owen - Another strong performance in defence and also helped himself to 3 goals.

18&Under Team Game

The Holyhead 18&U team, having beaten the current North Wales Champions St Asaph the previous week, had the ability to put a stop to Porthmadog's winning form and soon posted their intent by opening a 4-1 lead at the end of the 1st period. These mainly came from the speed and quick passing between Bradley Knight and Aron Owen, especially the follow up of blocked shots and seizing on rebounds to score, apart from Hannah Lewis's shot which found the back of the net by bouncing just in front of the netminder.
Aron and Bradley got one more apiece in the second session, with Bradley passing into the timed run of Aron and Bradley scoring from a goal-mouth scramble, where he simply poked the puck under the keepers legs. The score was 6-1 to Holyhead going into the last period.
The Trojans got one more goal, as Bradley went clear on goal, dummied the keeper and back-handed his shot passed the lunging keeper to score. The Pirates added three more goals to make the final score 7-4 in favour of Holyhead Trojans.
The score-line could have been closer if not for the fine netminding by keepers Huw Ellis-Jones and Laura Evans.

Scorers were Bradley Knight (4), Aron Owen (2), Hannah Lewis

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Aron Owen - Got through a phenomenal amount of work and still helped himself to 2 goals and made numerous assists.

At Holyhead Leisure Centre

Peewee [U11] Team Game

Report not availabe
The score was 1-7 to St Asaph.

Scorers were: Own Goal

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Byron Thorne - High work rate and never stopped chasing.

Junior [U14] Team Game

The Trojans had beaten St Asaph 10-5 away from home earlier in season and so were hoping for a repeat win and to maintain their 100% win record. The visitors had other ideas though, and by the end of the first period were leading 3-0.
The Trojans hit back in the second period and clawed their way back to 3-2, with one of these coming from a superb move, where Mark Parry passed to Darren Butler in the corner, who then laid it back into Mark's path right in front of goal for him to slot home. The Shadows then stretched their lead further before the Trojans hit back with two goals from Mark.
The final score was 6-4 to St Asaph Shadows.

Scorers were Mark Parry (4)

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Mark Parry - Got all the goals and worked very hard both in defence as well as attack.

Youth [U18] Team Game

The Shadows came to Holyhead with a 100% win record, having beaten Holyhead 8-7 at St Asaph in a close fought match earlier in season.
The visitors took an early lead before Holyhead hit back with 3 goals, one of these where Aron Owen's pass found Bradley Knight in front of goal unmarked, allowing him to casually slot home his first and the 3rd from Tom Ireland who having gone around the back of the goal, found his shot rebounding off the keeper into the net.
The Shadows got their 2nd in the second period, which was evenly matched taking the score to 3-2 going into the last period.
The final period saw Holyhead get 4 goals to St Asaph's 1 making the final score 7-3 to the Trojans. Andrew Birch got the 1st of these having cleared out defence, fired in a wrist shot from halfway which found a narrow gap between the keepers left and the post. Bradley got a superb goal where after cutting inside the defender from out wide and almost loosing control of the puck, stretched out to poke it under the keepers legs. This was great team performance, with strong defence and netminders Huw Ellis-Jones & Laura Evans making many fine saves.

Scorers were Bradley Knight (3), Aron Owen (2) Andrew Birch & Tom Ireland

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Lewis Darroch - Lewis battled & battled and never gave up against a very strong team, often winning possession. Strongest performance from Lewis since moving up into the Youth team.

Holyhead Trojans V Conwy Rage
9 January 2005
At Holyhead Leisure Centre

Peewee [U11] Team Game

Conwy opened their account at Holyhead by leading 3-0 at the end of the first period. The home side appeared to be struggling in their 1st outing since Christmas, and were looking like all the festive fare had taken it's toll.
The home side showed a slight improvement in the middle period, by restricting the visitors to just one goal, while Dale Stalman seized on a poor clearance to shoot through the keepers legs.
Whatever Simon Lewis said to them in the break, it was like turning on a button and sending out a different team. Within eight minutes the Trojans had turned a 1-4 deficit into a 6-4 lead with two goals coming from James Clay-Evans. They competed and fought for possession all over the rink and their passing was incisive with all players doing their bit. However, despite their final period effort and turn-around, Rage got two goals back to level the score.
The final score was 6-6.

Scorers were James Clay-Evans (2), Myrddin Griffiths, Ryan Nolan-Jones, Dale Staman & Nathan Thorne.

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Huw Morgan-Jones - strong in defence and improving with each game.

Junior [U14] Team Game

This was only the Juniors third game of the season, and having won both their previous games, were looking to maintain their 100% record.
The first period was a close affair with Trojans keeper Jessica Roberts making a number of great saves. Mark Parry then went passed 3 defenders to score, before the visitors levelled and then Darren Butler gave them a first period lead of 2-1.
Holyhead then started to open up and extended their lead to 8-2 with Dan Owen going passed 2 defenders to score and Jake Roberts slotting home from the half way line.
The Trojans passing was slick all through the 2nd and 3rd periods with Darren getting six goals in total, mostly set-up through the pinpoint passing from Mark Parry. Daniel Owen and Jake Roberts were again strong in defence and the visitors found them difficult to break down. The final score was 16-4 to Holyhead Trojans.

Scorers were Darren Butler (6), Mark Parry (4), Daniel Owen (4) & Jake Roberts (2).

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Jessica Roberts - is improving with each game, and made a number of important saves, including three quick successive stops during a sustained Rage attack.

Youth [U18] Team Game

The Trojans weren't feeling any Chrismas hangovers as they tore into the visitors to open a 10-2 lead at the end of the 1st period. Aron Owen and Bradley Knight contributed five between them with their usual mix of intricate passing moves and solo goals, while five other home side players also scored.
Holyhead competed all over the rink, and gave Conwy very little scoring opportunities with the home side scoring 7 times to the visitors 1 to go into the last period 17-3 up. The pick of these was Aron's pass to Jamie in defence, who then passed back to Aron as he moved into the oppositions defence guide the puck passed their netminder.
The final period saw Holyhead stretch their lead to end the match 21-6, with Bradley getting three more goals.
What was more pleasing than the result was that this was a great team effort with every player giving their utmost and competing in every area of the rink. This also includes both Trojan netminders Huw Ellis-Jones and Laura Evans, who made great saves when called upon.

Scorers were Bradley Knight (6), Aron Owen (5) Andrew Birch (3), Lewis Darrock (2), Neil Craven, Tom Ireland, Haydon Owen, Steven Lukehurst & Jamie Lewis.

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Robin Parry - this was a difficult choice with many fine performances to choose from. Robin defended strongly and gave no quarter.

Beez Skates Inline Hockey Western League
Llandudno Vikings V Holyhead Trojans
6 November 2004
At Llanddrillo College Leisure Centre

Peewee [U11] Team Game

This was always going to be a hard match for the Trojans as the Vikings have always traditionally had strong Peewee teams, and so it proved to be as the visitors found themselves trailing 6-0 at the end of the first period.
The start of the second period saw Holyhead give away an unlucky goal as a pass was deflected into their own goal off of a defenders skate. However, it was not luck, when James Evan's pass to James Clay-Evans found him free in front of goal to score the visitors first and Clay-Evans got another minutes later when after a goal-mouth scramble he somehow got the puck over the line to make to score 10-2 going into the final period.
The Vikings re-asserted their authority in the final passage of play to take their tally to 15, but not before James Clay-Evans got his third goal of the game during a power play whilst one of the Vikings was sat in the sin-bin.
Final score was 15-3 to Llandudno Vikings.

Scorers were James Clay-Evans (3)

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Dale Stalman - worked hard and was one of small number of players who were able to compete with Vikings.

Junior [U14] Team Game

The juniors have lost heavily in recent games to the Vikings and knowing the home side had lost a number of players to the Youth team due to age as they had done themselves, they were looking to put a stop to the losses.
Llandudno took an early lead before Darren Butler, from behind the goal, got a pass to Scott Craven who scored to level the game for the end of the first period.
The second period was a very tight affair again, but Darren broke the deadlock, by taking the puck past the last defender and scoring for a second period lead of 2-1.
To be beating the Vikings seemed to give the visitors more confidence which resulted in three more goals. Darren got his 2nd after scoring from a rebound from his initial shot, Jake Roberts shot skipped under the keeper and Mark Parry went past two Vikings to score after helping out in defence.
The final score was 1-5 to Holyhead Trojans, which are two wins out of two games this season.

Scorers were Darren Butler (2), Scott Craven, Mark Parry & Jake Roberts.

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Jessica Roberts - made a number of great saves and kept the opposition's score down to one, despite them having numerous shots.

Youth [U18] Team Game

The games between these two Youth teams were a win each last season.
The first quarter was close with the Vikings just leading 1-0 at the end of the first period of play.
The Vikings then quickly added three more to lead 4-0 before the Trojans hit back with two goals. The first of these was after Aron Owen falling over, somehow still got the puck through to Bradley Knight who went past the keeper to score. Aron got the second goal after Bradley won possession from the face-off and got his pass through to him to score. The home side hit back though, to lead 6-2 going into the last period.
The visitors did have a number of chances with some intricate passing between Aron & Bradley, but they always had the excellent Vikings keeper Rohan to contend with, who made a number of saves. Neil Craven and Tom Ireland continually pressed but found the home side defence difficult to breakdown. The Trojans defence struggled against a big hitting team, although strong performances from Andrew Birch and Steven Lukehurst meant the Holyhead attackers weren't always having to help out at the back. Bradley got the visitors third goal, but Llandudno took the game out of reach by adding two more.
The final score was 8-3 in favour of the Landudno Vikings.

Scorers were Bradley Knight (2) & Aron Owen

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Laura Evans - made a large number of saves and showed great courage when throwing herself over the puck when Vikings' forwards charging in at goal.

Peewee [U11] Team Game

This was the first time these two teams had played each other at 11 & under level.
Despite, the Trojans netminder, Dewi Williams making a number of great saves, Holyhead found themselves trailing 4-0 at the end of the first period.
The Shadows extended their lead to 9-0 in the second period, although the Trojans battled all the way, with Dewi again keeping the scoreline down.
The third period then saw the Trojans fight back to get three goals whilst the home side only got one more. Two of these came from James Clay-Evans and he also set up Ian Owen with a neat pass through the Shadow's defence to leave Ian clear on goal.
The final score was 10-3 in favour of the Shadows.

Scorers were James Clay-Evans (2) and Ian Owen

MVP - Most Valuable Player: James Clay-Evans - gave a strong performance, got two of the goals and set-up his team-mate for the third goal.

Junior [U14] Team Game

The juniors, having seen the Peewee Trojans get beaten must have been a little apprehensive approaching this game and indeed went a goal down at the start of the first period. Daniel Owen, though, had no such doubts and took the puck up from out of defence, past two of the Shadows and blasted past the home side netminder to level the score, which is where it remained until the end of the 1st period.
Holyhead then started the next period more postively, and soon took a lead after Mark Parry seized a rebound from one of Dan's shots, and lifted the puck over the keeper's head. The Shadows hit back, but the Trojans then extended their lead to 5-2 going into the final period, with the pick of these from Dan blasting in from the half way line after a pass from Darren Butler.
Both teams then added more goals to their tallies, but Holyhead had the edge through their strength and skill and ended 10-5 winners.

Scorers were Simon Lukehurst (2), Daniel Owen (2), Mark Parry (2), Jake Roberts (2), Darren Butler & Scott Craven.

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Daniel Owen - Made life difficult for the home side by strong defence work and got a valuable goal at start to give the Trojans the confidence that they could win.

Youth [U18] Team Game

The Trojans had lost to St Asaph, North Wales Champions in 2003 & 2004, 4-0 at the East-West League play-offs in June, and were therefore keen to improve on this.
They soon posted their intent after Aron Owen laid the puck back to Andrew Birch who blasted a slap-shot from the half way line to give the visitors an early lead. However, the home side proved their pedigree of being North Wales Champions for the last two seasons, by quickly hitting back to end the period with a 4-1 lead.
The Trojans then began to find their form and recovered the score to 5-4, with goals from Aron Owen, Bradely Knight & Jamie Lewis, before the Shadows again extended their lead to 7-4 going into the last period.
The final period again saw Holyhead step up another gear and level the score 7-7, with their last goal being the best where Aron skated around the back of the defence, Bradley waited for him to get in position and his pass was then thumped past a defenceless keeper. The Shadows then seized on a loose puck and scored the winner in the dying seconds to thwart the Trojans spirited fightback. The watching spectators from both teams agreed that this was the best game they'd seen for some time.
Both Trojan Keepers Huw Ellis-Jones & Laura Evans played well, making many important saves.
The final score was 8-7 in favour of the St Asaph Shadows.

Scorers were Aron Owen (3), Bradley Knight (2), Andrew Birch & Jamie Lewis

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Aron Owen - Fast, strong and always tracking back to shore up the defence when needed.

Youth [U18] Team Game

Despite the youth team losing two players to them being too old, the squad has increased significantly this season with 7 of the junior team moving up.
The Cobras, having travelled from Bethesda, had no intention of allowing a repeat score of 32 - 0, in favour of the Holyhead in this same fixture last season. Indeed, by the end of the first period they were leading 2 - 0 and had taken the game to the home side.
During the break, the Trojans then brushed off the cob-webs, and came out fighting. During this period they laid seige to the Cobras goal and knotched up six goals to lead 6 - 2. The pick of these was a goal from Bradley Knight after some intricate passing between him and Aron Owen, cut through the defence to leave them stranded, and leave Brad on his own to score past the desperate netminder.
Holyhead again had most of the play in the third and final quarter and took their goal tally to 9, but not before the visitors had also got three more goals. Lewis Darroch and Haydon Owen combined well in some good passing moves, and Lura Evans also played well in her debut as netminder for the Youths by not conceding any goals in the 2nd period.
The final score was 9- 5 in favour of the Trojans.

Scorers were Bradley Knight (2), Aron Owen (2), Haydon Owen (2), Steven Lukehurst, Andrew Birch & Tom Ireland

MVP - Most Valuable Player: Steven Lukehurst - this was his debut game for the Youths, but he gave a very assured & confident performance, and battled & competed all over the rink.
