Glaslyn Pirates V Holyhead Trojans
16 March 2003
At Glaslyn Leisure Centre, Porthmadog

Peewee [U11] Team Game

The Trojans had beaten the Pirates 14 - 3 earlier in season, so this was a chance for the home side to see if they could improve.
The Holyhead team were 3 - 0 in front at end of 1st quarter with goals from Matthew Birch, Scott Craven & Mark Parry.
The home side got a goal back in 2nd period before mark added 3 more and Ian Owen got a memorable goal.
The Trojans kept the Pirates side pinned down for the rest of the match except for rare breakouts in which Glaslyn added 1 more in each of the last 2 quarters, but the visitors increased their tally as the final score was 15 - 3 to the Holyhead Trojans with Myrddin Griffiths and James Evans also adding to the final score-line.

Scorers were Mark Parry (5), Matthew Birch (3), Scott Craven (3), Myrddin Griffiths (2), Ian Owen & James Evans

Most Valuable Player - Myrddin Griffiths, marked his men well and contributed two goals

Junior [U14] Team Game

The Juniors had beaten the Pirates 7 - 3 at Holyhead earlier in season and so were a little surprised to find themselves 1 - 0 down at the beginning of the 2nd quarter.
Haydon Owen and Dan Owen soon hit back though so the score was level at halftime at 2 - 2.
Andrew Birch scored a superb long range shot which bounced under keeper, before Simon Lukehurst and Dan scored to give them a 5 - 3 lead going into the last quarter.
The last period saw a goal apiece with the Trojans 6th coming from Steven Lukehurst after receiving a pass from his brother Simon.
Final score was 6 - 4 to Holyhead Trojans

Scorers were Dan Owen (2), Haydon Owen, Andrew Birch, Simon Lukehurst & Steven Lukehurst

Most Valuable Player - Jake Roberts, always in right place at right time to mop up in defence and showing more confidence in possession.

Youth [U18] Team Game

This was a close encounter at Holyhead earlier in season with the Trojans winning 6 - 3.
The Pirates are always very competitive against Holyhead and so a close game was expected. The 1st quarter was close with only 1 goal separating the two sides, which came from Trojan's Tom Ireland shot which rebounded off a defender.
Both Ashley Knight and Aron Owen got one a piece whilst the home side also got one to make the halfway score 3 - 1 to the visitors.
Period 3 saw each team get one goal, with most spectacular of the match coming from Jamie Lewis's wrist shot from his own goal line.
Ashley then added 2 more and Aron scored again in the last quarter where the score finished 7 - 4 in favour of Holyhead Trojans.

Scorers were Aron Owen (3), Ashley Knight (2), Tom Ireland & Jamie Lewis

Junction Rage V Holyhead Trojans
9 March 2003
At Erias Park Leisure Centre

Peewee [U11] Team Game

Mark Parry opened the scoring with a sharp wrist shot before Rage hit back to end the 1st quarter 2 - 1 up.
Mark then got two more in the 2nd period before the home team equalised for the 3rd and last quarter.
Rage then added 3 goals but unfortunately the visitors weren't able to respond, so the final score was 6 - 3 to Rage.

Scorers were Mark Parry (3)

Most Valuable Player - Mark Parry as always, very skilful play

Junior [U14] Team Game

The Juniors have struggled in their friendlies against the Eastern league teams so far this season, and this game was no exception.
At the half-way mark they were 8 - 1 down against Rage, with the only goal coming from Andrew Birch who blasted a slap shot from half-way.
The Trojans tightened their defence in the 3rd quarter where it was a goal apiece, with Steven Lukehurst scoring from a rebound from his brother Simon's shot.
However, Rage then added 4 more goals in the last period where the score ended 13 - 2.

Scorers were Andrew Birch & Steven Lukehurst

Most Valuable Player - Andrew Birch, very strong in defence

Youth [U18] Team Game

Trojans keeper Huw's kit had inadvertently got left behind, so the Junior keeper Laura Evans bravely stepped into the Youth team whilst the regular's kit was fetched.
Junction Rage are currently top of the Beezskates Eastern league, so this game was going to be a tough friendly.
However, at the end of the 1st quarter the Trojans were leading 3 - 0, with some skillful play from Ashley Knight and Aron Owen.
The home side coach must have had some strong words with his side as they came out strong in the 2nd quarter and hit 4 goals to lead 4 - 3 at half time.
The 3rd quarter was a close affair as both sides scored to go into the last period with Rage 7 - 6 up.
By now Huw's kit had arrived so he took his position against some fierce shooting from the home side.
Both teams added two goals apiece so the score ended a very close 9 - 8 to Junction Rage.

Scorers were Aron Owen (5) & Ashley Knight (3)

Most Valuable Player - Ashley Knight, all over the pitch and very dangerous in possesion.

Andrew Birch then struck from long range to level the score, and Haydon latched onto a pass from Lewis Darroch to score and give the Trojans a 3 - 2 lead.

Most Valuable Player: Andrew Birch, strong in defence and always in position for long range shots.

Youth [U18] Team Game

The Trojan Youths had beaten the Cobra Youths 17 - 1 at Bethesda earlier in season, so the challenge was to the visitors to see if they could improve.
In the 1st quarter, Aron Owen and Ahley Knight had obviously not read the script as they contributed 6 goals between them for a 1st quarter lead of 7 - 0.
Four more were added in the 2nd period, where Jamie Lewis scored the most spectacular with a long range slap-shot from the halfway mark.
The defenders Gael Mach and Dave Butler, not wanting to be left out, also got rare goals as they added to the growing tally of 19 - 0 going into the last period.
Dave also got another in the last quarter before Adam Knight blasted from long range through the defence to get his fourth for a final score of 24 - 0.
This was their second shut-out (clean sheet) after beating Dreiggiaur Dyffryn 5 - 0 at Pen-y-Groes last weekend.

The 2nd quarter was much of the same, seeing Scott Craven getting two and a consolation goal for the Pirates.
The visitors tightened up in the 3rd quarter which saw a goal apiece.
The game ended 14 - 3 to the Trojans, who added 4 more in the last session.

Peewee [U11] Team Game

Because there are no other Peewee teams in the western league, the Trojan Peewee team has joined the Eastern league.

The visitors then added another 2, as Mark again kept the home side in it with another great goal.
The 3rd quarter saw Team predator add 2 more with 1 apiece in the last quarter.

Holyhead Trojans V Dreigiau Dyffryn
10 November 2002
At Holyhead Leisure Centre

Youth [U18] Team Game

This was the Holyhead Trojans second match in two days, and the North Wales Champions knew they were in for a tough game against a very much-improved Dreigiaur Dyffryn team.
Indeed, the visitors were soon 2 - 0 in the lead within 5 minutes of the 1st quarter.
The home team had to dig deep to draw level through Ashley Knight & Aron Owen before Dreigiaur ended the 1st period 3 - 2 up.
The 2nd quarter ended 3 - 3 with Jamie Lewis breaking clear and scoring through a high lofted shot.
Both teams added another goal for a 4 -4 score to set up a tense last period.
Nerves appeared as tense on the pitch as they were in the watching spectators with one player from each team having to be sin-binned with their enthusiasm getting the better of their discipline. Again the homeside lifted their game and took the final score to 6 - 4 in favour of the Trojans.
If the visitors carry on improving the way they have then return fixture at Penygroes will be another tough game.

Scorers were Aron Owen (3), Ashley Knight (2), & Jamie Lewis

Most Valueble Player MVP: Ashley Knight - put in an unbelievably committed performance both in attack and defence, showing great skill in the process.

Bethesda Ffrancon Cobras V Holyhead Trojans
12 October 2002
At Bethesda Leisure Centre

Junior [U14] Team Game

This was the Trojans 1st match of the new season. The Junior team has lost a few players moving up to the Youth team but had some debuts from Simon Lukehurst, Dafydd Roberts and Dafydd Williams, who had come up from the Peewee team.
The 1st quarter was close with Steven Lukehurst getting the Trojan's 1st goal of the season with Haydon Owen soon getting another.
The Trojans then stamped their authority in the 2nd quarter by taking 6-2 lead with Darren Butler adding two to the score.
The 3rd quarter saw the away team add two more and put one in their own goal for the home side.
The Cobras mounted a comeback in the last quarter by adding 2 to their score making the final scoreline 5 - 9 in favour of the Holyhead team.
The Trojans displayed how their passing game has improved, which was the key to their success. Their follow up and scoring off of loose pucks from blocked shots also resulted in a number of goals, particularly goals from Darren Butler seizing rebounded shots from other players.

Scorers were Haydon Owen (3), Darren Butler (3), Steven Lukehurst, Andrew Birch & Daniel Owen.

Most Valueble Player MVP: Steven Lukehurst, got 1st goal but never stopped working and supporting team-mates.

Youth [U18] Team Game

The Holyhead Trojans Youth team are the current North Wales Champions, so are now the team that all others will measure themselves against. Holyhead had lost Ben Lewis this season due to age but had three debut appearances from Tom Ireland, Dion Jones and Ceri Edwards, who had all come up from the Junior team.
In the 1st quarter things were evenly balanced, with the Trojans seemingly unable to find their natural rhythm that had made them so dominant last season, indeed the Cobras scored 1st to take an early lead before Adam Knight and Dave Butler added 1 apiece to end the 1st period 1 - 2 up.
In the 2nd quarter they eventually started to connect with some great passing moves. Adam partnered the new youth Tom and was very unselfish in assisting him to get a goal after his second attempted pass for him finally got through for Tom to slot home. Adam added 2 goals with Aron Owen's 2 to take a 1 - 9 lead at the half way mark.
Aron and Ashley Knight then began to find the spark that made them so devasting at last seasons play-offs and scored 3 between them with some great passing and moves. The Trojans then added another 5 in the final quarter with the last goal being the best where the move was started by Will Wood who passed to Aron who found Ashley with a pin-point pass who then scored.
The final score was 1- 17 in favour of the Trojans.

Scorers were Ashley Knight (5), Adam Knight (4), Aron Owen (4), Dave Butler (2), Jamie Lewis & Tom Ireland.

Most Valueble Player MVP: Tom Ireland, had an excellent debut game for Youths
