Holyhead Trojans V Glaslyn Pirates
5 May 2002
At Holyhead Leisure Centre
Youth [U18] Team Game
The youth team won their last game against the Pirates 9 - 14 at Porthmadog, and although had virtually secured the league title on Saturday, they wanted to end the season with a 100% record.
From the start the Pirates showed they weren't going to be pushovers and gave the home team no quarter, but for all the pressure, the Trojans responded positively and won the quarter 2 - 0 with fine goals from Aron Owen and Ashley Knight.
The Pirates upped their game in the 2nd quarter and got a goal back before Aron Owen got the Trojans 3rd.
The Trojans class then began to tell in the 3rd quarter where they took a 7 - 3 lead into the last quarter, where they added two more to make the final score 9 - 3.
Scorers were Ben Lewis (4), Aron Owen (3) and Ashley Knight (2)
Most Valuable Player, MVP: Ashley Knight - maximum effort combined with great technique & skill ensured a great performance

Holyhead Trojans V Barmouth Rebels
21 April 2002
At Holyhead Leisure Centre
Junior [U14] Team Game
The Trojans had won this fixture at Barmouth 2 - 5 earlier in season, so were hoping for a repeat performance to secure the league top spot and ensure their place in the East/West Division play-offs in June.
Neil Craven opened the home sides account with a superb long range drive. The visitors soon equalised before Lewis Darroch gave them a slim 2 - 1 lead by the end of the 1st quarter.
The Trojans applied more pressure in the 2nd quarter resulting in a goal from Hayden Owen.
The 3rd quarter saw good passing moves between Neil Craven and Tom Ireland resulting in goals for each.
The Rebels then defended stoutly in the last quarter and didn't concede any further goals so the final score was 5 - 1 to the Holyhead Trojans.
This score now guarantees the Trojans the league winner's spot and their entry into the play-offs. Well done.
Scorers were Neil Craven (2), Lewis Darroch, Hayden Owen & Tom Ireland
Most valuable Player, MVP: Steven Lukehurst - never stopped working, contributing in defence as well as leading the line
Youth [U18] Team Game
This match was 3 - 7 in favour of the Trojans at Barmouth in January.
From the start they showed they intended to improve on that score-line as goal difference is now an important factor near the end of the season.
They soon found themselves 5 - 1 up at the end of the 1st quarter and added 7 more without loss at the half way mark.
Their improved passing was again on display with Ashley Knight and Aron Owen combining in some excellent moves.
The homes side added 5 in the 3rd quarter and just 1 more in the last session against a more determined Rebels team where the final score was 18 - 2.
Scorers were Ashley Knight (6), Ben Lewis (5), Aron Owen (3), Jamie Lewis (2) and Adam Knight (2)
Most Valuable Player, MVP: Ben Lewis - uncompromising performance and shooting was powerful & accurate

Holyhead Trojans V Glaslyn Pirates
14 April 2002
At Holyhead Leisure Centre
Peewees [U11] Team Game
This match was a 7 - 7 draw earlier in the season at the Pirates home.
Both teams had attended the Peewee trials for the national Welsh team the day before with the Trojans proud to have had four players selected for the next stage.
After initial early pressure from Pirates, it was James Wattam who scored first with a neat slotted shot from nearly half-way. Mark Parry soon added a 2nd after bringing the puck all the way out of defence. The pirates added 2 to level the score by the end of the 1st quarter.
The 2nd quarter saw the Pirates go into a 2 - 4 lead before Matthew Birch rescued the homeside with a long range shot to make the score 3 - 4 at the half way point.
The Trojans then dominated the 3rd quarter by scoring 4 without conceding any, to go into the last quarter 7 - 4 up.
Both teams upped their performance with goals coming from both teams but the Trojans made it their first league win with a final scoreline of 11- 6.
Scorers were Mark Parry (5), Simon Lukehurst (3), James Wattam, Matthew Birch & James Evans
Most valuable Player, MVP: Mark Parry - worked hard throughout and got crucial goals.
Junior [U14] Team Game
The Trojans had beaten the Pirates 2 - 8 at Porthmadog earlier in season so were hoping to repeat the success.
Tom Ireland opened the scoreline but the Pirates hit back to end the 1st quarter 1 - 2 in front.
The Trojans then added 3 goals to reach half way 4 - 2 in the lead.
The only goal in the 3rd quarter came from the Pirates.
The Pirates soon levelled the score 4 - 4 in the last quarter before Darren Butler somehow forced the puck over the goal line before the Pirates again levelled the score where the match ended in a 5 - 5 draw.
Scorers were Tom Ireland (2), Neil Craven, Lewis Darroch and Darren Butler
Most Valuable Player, MVP: Laura Evans - magnificent series of saves, without which the home side would have lost.

Beaumaris Dragons V Holyhead Trojans
3 March 2002
At Maes y Glas Leisure Centre
Junior [U14] Team Game
This was another match which the Trojans were expected to win but they soon found themselves down 1 - 0 at the end of the 1st quarter despite applying most of the pressure.
They recovered in the 2nd quarter with a goal apiece from Lewis Darroch and Neil Craven to lead 1 - 2.
The only goal in the 3rd quarter came when Steven Lukehurst spun sharply and sent the defence in the wrong direction which left the goal open for him to lift the puck into the net for a 1 - 3 score.
The Dragons fought back in the last quarter and added 3 to their score but the Trojans maintained their lead by getting three more goals.
Final score was 4 - 6 in favour of the Trojans.
Scorers were Neil Craven (2), Steven Lukehurst (2), Lewis Darroch and Tom Ireland.
Most Valuable Player, MVP: Steven Lukehurst, always battling to get posession and scored twice, one of which was a great solo effort.
Youth [U18] Team Game
If the Trojans thought they'd beat the Dragons as easily as they did earlier in the season then they were in for a shock. The Dragons were a much-improved side and were soon 1 goal up.
Ben Lewis levelled the score before the Dragons ended the 1st quarter 2 - 1 in front.
A team talk from their coach Simon Lewis must have had an affect because the Trojans scored three times through Adam Knight (2) and Jamie Lewis in the 2nd quarter to lead 2 - 4.
The 3rd quarter saw a goal apiece so the score line was 3 - 5 going into the last quarter in favour of the Trojans.
Ashley Knight got his second after picking up a re-bound off the wall and the home side got another consolation goal, so the final score was also 4 - 6 to the visitors.
Scorers were Adam Knight (2), Ashley Knight (2), Ben Lewis & Jamie Lewis
Most Valuable Player, MVP: Laura Evans, again kept goal for Youth team and made some outstanding stops.

Holyhead Trojans V Bethesda Ffrancon Cobras
17 February 2002
At Holyhead Leisure Centre
Peewees [U11] Team Game
This match was a friendly and was only the 2nd Peewee game since the team was created.
The early pressure came from the Trojans who pinned the Cobras back in their own half for most of the 1st quarter.
Eventually the Cobras cracked as Mark Parry broke the deadlock with the 1st goal.
The Trojans then added another three more in the 2nd quarter with Matthew Birch getting a good solo goal after dragging the puck all the way round the opponents goal and defence.
Daniel Morris and Ian Stones also got their first goals of the season as the Trojans eventually won the game 10 - 1.
Scorers were Mark Parry (4), Simon Lukehurst (3), Matthew Birch, Ian Stones & Daniel Morris
Man of the Match: Mark Parry, although offensive player, he was always helping out in defence.
Junior [U14] Team Game
This match was a 6 - 6 draw earlier in the season at Bethesda with the Trojans throwing away a 3 - 6 lead in the final quarter, so this match was going to be a close affair.
However, the Trojans appeared a little slow to get going and found themselves trailing 1 - 3 by the end of the 1st quarter with Neil Craven getting a great goal to keep them in it.
The 2nd quarter was a much closer affair as Hadyn Owen got the only goal as they edged back towards the visitors score. The Trojans eventually edged in front in the 3rd by adding two more goals as Tom Ireland also added his name to the scorers list.
The last quarter was a tense affair as the home team defended their narrow 4 - 3 lead. But for the superb keeping of Laura Evans this match could have gone the other way.
It was not their best display but the result was more important than the style, as this win is likely to secure a top league placing and ensure they reach the play-offs.
Scorers were Neil Craven (2), Hadyn Owen & Tom Ireland
Man of the Match: Laura Evans, brave and solid keeping kept the Trojans in it.
Youth [U18] Team Game
The home side were without their regular keeper through injury, so young Laura Evans bravely stepped in to the breach.
The opening few minutes were tight but it was Adam Knight who got the first, with Ben Lewis soon adding another and a fabulous 1st time hit from Ashley Knight on the half way line for the 3rd.
The Cobras ensured the home side did not have it all their own way and got 3 goals through the 2nd & 3rd quarters, although the Trojans dominated the scoreline by going into the last quarter 11 - 3 in front with Adam getting 3 in the 2nd quarter.
In the last quarter the Trojans added 2 to the visitors 3, so the final score was 13 - 6 to Holyhead.
Scorers were Adam Knight (6), Ben Lewis (3), Ashley Knight (2), & Aron Owen (2)
Man of the Match: Aron Owen, tremendous work-rate throughout.

Holyhead Trojans V Amlwch Warriors
Sunday 3rd February 2002
At Holyhead Sports Centre
Youth [U18] Team Game
This match ended up 19 - 1 in favour of the Trojans last season. Could the Warriors improve on that and test this unbeaten Trojan team?
By the end of the 1st quarter the Trojans were 4 - 0 in front with the 4th coming after Aron Owen had weaved his way backwards through the Warrior defence, passed to Ashley Knight who layed off for Jamie Lewis to blast home from the half way line.
The Trojans added another 5 goals in the 2nd quarter and displayed much class in the process.
Their passing game is getting better with each match this season and today was time to show how well they do it. Slicking passing and intuitive knowledge of where their team-mates were on the pitch left the Warriors struggling to keep the Trojans out.
The 3rd quarter saw the Warriors get a consolation goal after the Trojan defence left their keeper Huw Ellis-Jones exposed, but they added 6 to the score so they went into the last quarter 15 - 1 ahead.
Dave Butler, Jamie Lewis and Gael Mach make up the meanest defence in this league and are largely responsible for keeping opponents scores low this season, and again they gave no quarter leaving keeper Huw with little to do. Ashley Knight got three more goals in the last period with two coming from acute angles that had no right to get into the net, let alone past the keeper! The Ashley Knight/Aron Owen and Adam Knight/Ben Lewis front pairs combined well with many skillful movements.
Final score was 23 - 1 to the Trojan team.
Scorers were Ashley Knight (7), Ben Lewis (6), Adam Knight (5), Aron Owen (3) & Jamie Lewis (2)
Man of the Match: Jamie Lewis, excellent offensive play from a defensive position.

Barmouth Rebels V Holyhead Trojans
Sunday 20th January 2002
At Barmouth Leisure Centre
Junior [U14] Team Game
The Barmouth Rebels appeared to be a much bigger team, but this failed to daunt the smaller, unbeaten Trojans. The opening 5 minutes was a close affair with both sides having scoring opportunities, however, the deadlock was broken when a superbly executed pass from Hayden Owen found Lewis Darroch in space in front of goal who didn't need telling twice to shoot. Hayden himself soon added another goal in the 1st quarter.
The 2nd quarter saw Neil Craven get a goal for a 3 - 0 lead.
In the 3rd quarter the Rebels made a comeback and got the score back to a respectable 2 - 3 in favour of the Trojans, before Darren Butler made the score a little more comfortable by taking the away team into the last quarter 4 - 2 ahead.
The match eventually finished 2 - 5.
Scorers were Neil Craven (2), Lewis Darroch (1), Haydon Owen (1) & Darren Butler (1)
Man of the Match: Hayden Owen - Slick pass got the Trojans off the mark.
Youth [U18] Team Game
This game was also a close encounter in the first two quarters. Ben Lewis seized on a poor clearance to get the Trojan's 1st and Ashley Knight picked up a pin-point pass from Aron owen to take the Trojans into the 3rd quarter with a slim 2 - 0 lead.
The Trojans then began to exert their authority in the 3rd quarter and went into the 4th quarter with a 6 - 1 lead.
The Rebels got 2 more consolation goals, whilst Holyhead added a seventh with a neat pass from Adam Knight to find Ben in space who lifted the puck high into the net.
Jamie Lewis gave another committed display in defence.
The final score was 3- 7 in favour of the Trojans.
Scorers were Ben Lewis (4), Ashley Knight (1), Aron Owen (1) & Adam Knight (1)
Man of the Match: Aron Owen - Tireless performance, never stopped.

Holyhead Trojans V Dreigiaur Dyffryn
Sunday 9 December 2001
At Holyhead Leisure Centre
Youth [U18] Team Game
This was the Holyhead Trojans second match in two days, but they were still in the winning mood against Dreigiaur Dyffryn.
They scored twice in each of the first three quarters and only brave keeping by the visitors keeper saw them keep the score respectable. One particularly good goal came from a reverse back pass from Adam Knight into the path of Ben Lewis who rammed home an unstoppably powerful shot
This Trojan team doesn't like conceding goals and whenever Dreigiaur Dyffryn did get a shooting opportunity the home side literally threw themselves in front of goal to stop the puck in a desperate bid to keep a clean sheet.
In the last quarter though, Dreigiaur Dyffryn did get a late consolation goal to match the Trojan's 7th, where the eventual score was 7 - 1 to the Holyhead Trojans.
Scorers were Ben Lewis (3), Ashley Knight (2), & Jamie Lewis (2)
Man of the Match: Aron Owen - involved with many slick passing moves and always tracking back to help in defence

Bethesda Ffrancon Cobras V Holyhead Trojans
Saturday 8 December 2001
At Bethesda Leisure Centre
Junior [U14] Team Game
This match was a measure of how much improvement there has been in this junior Trojan team since the two close defeats inflicted by the Cobras last season.
The Cobras seemed a bit slow off the blocks and the Trojans were quickly ahead 0 - 3 by the end of the 1st quarter with goals from Neil Craven, Michael Paton & Dion Jones. The 2nd & 3rd quarters were much of the same with most pressure coming from the Trojans, which allowed them to go into the 4th quarter 3 - 6 up.
However, in the 4th quarter they let the Cobras back into the match where it finished 6 - 6. Neil Craven had a powerful shot blocked at the last by the Cobra keeper.
Other scorers were Lewis Darroch (2) & Daniel Owen
Man of the Match: Jake Roberts - made many crucial stops in defence during the Cobras fightback
Youth [U18] Team Game
The Cobras gave the Trojans two tough games last season in which the Trojans edged the points. However, this season the Cobras had lost four good players due to the age limit.
The 1st quarter saw the Trojans go into a 0 - 3 lead ahead of the home side. The 2nd quarter saw the Cobras get a goal, but by the midway point, Trojans were 1 - 9 up. The 3rd quarter saw the most spectacular goal when Aron Owen lifted a pass through the defence for Ashley Knight to dive onto and score.
The passing from the Trojans was slick throughout, and when the home side defended in numbers and were pinned back, they used their option of creating space in the middle and then setting Jamie Lewis up for long range shots from half-way, which were blasted through the packed defence. This resulted in 4 goals for him. Two good solo goals were also added by Ben Lewis & Adam Knight.
The final score was 1- 22 in favour of the Trojans.
Scorers were Jamie Lewis (4), Arron Owen (3), Neil Craven (2), Ben Lewis (5), Ashley Knight (5), & Adam Knight (3)
Man of the Match: Jamie Lewis - Conceded very little in defence and added extra dimension to attack

Glaslyn Pirate V Holyhead Trojans
Sunday 2 December 2001
At Porthmadog Sports Centre
Peewees [U11] Team Game
This was the Peewees first official match with the team only formed this season. From the start the packed viewing gallery witnessed a spirited performance against an experienced Porthmadog side. The Trojans were 7 - 4 up in period 3 but were forced to settle for a 7 - 7 draw. Line 1 supplied all the Trojans goals with 4 from Simon Lukehurst and 3 from Mark Parry. Line 2 showed good potential, with some superb defensive play from Scott Craven.
Man of the Match: Mark Parry - as good in defence as attack
Junior [U14] Team Game
The Trojans lost both their games against the Pirates last season, but have now improved to such an extent that they beat the home team 8 - 2. The Trojans passed the puck well through out, which was the key to their success. Laura Evans again proved her worth in goal with many fine saves. Scorers were Haydon Owen, Daniel Owen (3), Tom Ireland, Dion Jones, Darren Butler & Neil Craven.
Man of the Match: Steven Lukehurst - worked hard throughout
Youth [U18] Team Game
The youth team won their last outing at the play-offs against Pirates, but had lost both their league games against them last season. Today was time to put things right.
The Trojans were quickly ahead 1-4 at end of the 1st quarter, with a passing game that appeared clinical and incisive from start to finish. The Pirates tried to hang on and resisted well, particularly in the 3rd quarter but eventually the Trojan's class took its toll in the last quarter where they rapped it up with a 14 - 9 scoreline. With some stunning goals from both teams, this was Inline Hockey at it's best.
Scorers were Adam Knight, Ashley Knight (3), Ben Lewis (2), Neil Craven (5) & Arron Owen (3).
Man of the Match: Neil Craven - after playing in junior game, he still gave his all in the youth game

Holyhead Trojans V Beaumaris Dragons
Sunday 25th November 2001
At Holyhead Sports Centre
Junior [U14] Team Game
The Dragons started strongly and applied early pressure forcing good saves from Laura Evans the Trojan keeper. Both sides had scoring opportunities, but after five minutes Andrew Birch was the first to make his mark and score the Trojans first. Beaumaris soon hit back to level. By the end of the first quarter Darren Butler had given the home side a slim 2-1 lead.
During the second quarter Haydon Owen showed that he can pass and contributed well to his line getting the Trojans third through Lewis Darroch, who lofted the puck high and hard into the Dragons goal. The third quarter saw both sides score for the Trojans to go into the final quarter 4-2 in front.
The Trojans then began to stamp their authority on the game and went into an 8-2 lead with goals from Darren Butler, Steven Lukehurst, Dion Jones and another from Lewis Darroch. The Dragon keeper sustained an injury and was replaced by a team mate for the last few minutes when they got a late consolation goal as a result of a mix-up between the Trojan keeper & defender to make the final score 8-3 in favour of Trojans.
Man of the Match: Neil Craven
Youth [U18] Team Game
The Trojans applied early pressure, but despite this the Dragons went a goal up against the run of play. By the end of the first quarter though, Ben Lewis had scored twice and Ashley Knight had got his first to make the score reflect the run of play. The second quarter was scrappy and the Trojans were only able to add one more to the score-line.
The third quarter saw the Dragons come out fighting, they must have decided not to let the home side have it all their own way. They soon got their second and were again attacking forcing the Trojan keeper Huw Ellis Jones, to make numerous saves. However, Ashley then decided enough was enough and scored twice to take the Trojans into the last quarter 6-2 up.
The Trojans then laid siege on the Dragons goal and added four more through Ashley (2), Ben and Aron owen. Final score 10-3 in favour of the Trojans.
The Trojans Youth team has picked up from their strong form last season, which saw them East-West Division play-off runners up and the Juniors are continuing their improvement to make them possible league title contenders.
Man of the Match: Huw Ellis-Jones
